European Fan Palm

Common Names- European

European fan palms are native to the mediterranean region which is where it acquired its name European. These palms are very hardy palms, usually grow in clusters but are rarely found individually. They are very slow growing reaching a typical height of 10' and give you an abundance of fans considering it is usually 3 or more trees growing from the same root base. These palms prefer full sun but will maintain a brilliant appearance in light shade. They are very drought tolerant, once they are established, so you want to plant them in an area that will not hold water. You will still need to take good care of them when they are first planted watering the tree, not the ground, daily, making sure the ground does not get saturated, until the tree fully roots, usually 3-6 months of spring or summer weather. Avoid any weed killers or fertilizer not specifically designed for palms within a 15' radius of these trees. all palms come from the grass family of plants therefore anything that will kill a weed or plant will have very dramatic effects on palms possibly ending up in the death of the tree. Europeans are salt tolerant therefore adding Epsom salt every other month will keep them green and gorgeous. we recommend mixing the Epsom salt with water, 2 tablespoons per gallon, one gallon per foot of height of the tree pouring it down the trunk of the tree. Do not overdue the Epsom salt, even though they are salt tolerant too much will hinder its growth.
